Qatar International Center for Conciliation and Arbitration (QICCA) on Monday affirmed that the economic growth witnessed by Qatar in various fields was accompanied by an advanced judicial legislative development.
Speaking at the opening session of a seminar entitled ‘The Courts’ System in Qatar’, QICCA Board Member Sheikh Thani bin Ali al Thani said that the increase in the number of cases is an evidence of the country’s economic activity and a positive indicator of its increased commercial transactions.
Sheikh Thani said that Qatar always calls for the rule of law, justice and judicial integrity, pointing out to the host of the second meeting of the Global Judicial Integrity Network that emphasised Qatar’s efforts in this regard.
Sheikh Thani noted this meeting is considered one of the outputs of the Global Programme for the Implementation of the Doha Declaration adopted by the United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, held in Doha in 2015.
The seminar was supported by QICCA, Qatar Lawyers, the Qatari Centre of Social Cultural for the Deaf and Lexis Nexis.
During the first session, Abdul Rahman Mohamed Sharafi reviewed the principle of rule of law in Qatar, terming the Qatari judiciary as fair and sophisticated and has great practical and scientific capabilities.
On his turn, Moussa bin Salem al Eizri focused on features about the development of the judiciary in Oman, while Nasser bin Ahmad al Saadi delivered a presentation on the electronic project for the organisation of the Qatari courts.
In the second session, Youssef Ahmed al Zaman discussed ways of enhancing the effectiveness and independence of the judiciary.
Sultan al Abdullah reviewed the appointment of arbitrators by the court, while Mustafa Basyoni on the rule of law as a pillar of the Qatari judicial system.
The seminar also discussed several issues related to the court system in Qatar, where legal experts and judges participating in the symposium discussed the principle of the rule of law in Qatar and enhancing the effectiveness and independence of the judiciary in the country.
