The Education Committee of the Qatar Chamber (QC) examined the obstacles for investment in private sector education, along with other topics related to the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs (MADLSA).
The meeting, held at QC’s headquarters, was presided over by QC’s First Vice-Chairman Mohamed bin Twar, in the presence of Director of Inspection at MADLSA Fahd Zaher al Dosari.
Dosari reiterated his ministry’s keenness to remove all obstacles faced by private schools, including labour-related issues, affirming its preparedness to assist QC’s Education Committee in fulfilling its mission to serve private sector in the country.
The committee examined a circular issued by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education barring schools from employing teachers above the age of 50. The age of school managers should not exceed 55, according to the circular.
The members of the committee said the ministry wanted the circular to be implemented immediately. They said the issue should be handled by the MADLSA, instead of the Ministry of Education.
The meeting also discussed work permit procedures, the relation between employees and school owners, the mechanism for approving employment contracts and the mechanisms to make complaints, among other topics.
The committee also reviewed the possibility of re-evaluating procedures of the Dispute Settlement Committee for the benefit of all parties. The members proposed that visas should be issued to teachers by their names, and not by nationality and number.
Dosari assured that he would convey the concerns raised by the committee to the directorates of MADLSA for finding solutions, adding that the ministry is keen to streamline all issues pertaining to private schools.
