The Qatari-Turkish Economic Forum will kick off at Sheraton Hotel here tomorrow Tuesday 16 January.
The QC chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani and president of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) Rifat Hisarcikiloglu will jointly inaugurate the forum.
Representatives of more than 150 Turkish companies specialized in infrastructure, building, pharmaceutical, medical supplies, foodstuffs, agriculture, glass and plastic, industrials equipment, electricity, logistics and security systems will attend the event.
The event will see discussion sessions on investment opportunities in Qatar, which would be presented by officials from the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, the Ministry of Transport and Communication and QDB.
The forum will also will highlight the huge business and investment opportunists available in Turkey. The bilateral trade volume between Qatar and Turkey in 2016 reached over $1.44bn (QR5.24bn) against $1.43bn in the previous year.
Qatar’s exports to Turkey in 2016 were at $908.5m, while imports of goods from Turkey stood at $538.9m. The trade balance continued to be in favour of Qatar at $369.6m, marginally down from $384.4m in 2015.
More than 200 companies in a number of industries are operating in Qatar. In addition, the projects carried out by Turkish contracting companies in the State of Qatar increased to $11.6bn, most of which are part of the 2022 World Cup projects. Qatari investments in Turkey are valued at $20m.
