Qatar Chamber has recently participated in the 1st Virtual Conference of the Chamber of Commerce & Industry of the Asian Cooperation Dialogue Member Countries (ACD) held on Wednesday, 20 January 2021
The event which was held on the sidelines of the 17 th Ministerial Meeting of the ACD saw a large participation of representatives of unions and chambers of commerce and industry of Asian countries.
Qatar Chamber’s First Vice Chairman HE Mohamed bin Ahmed bin Twar Al Kuwari represented the Chamber at the conference.
Addressing attendees, Al Kuwari stressed the State of Qatar’s keenness on developing and promoting its economic and commercial relations with all sisterly and friendly Asian countries, noting that trade relations between both sides have been growing and expanding steadily over the past few years and there is already a noted presence of Qatari investments in many Asian countries and many Qatari investments are in the pipeline in these countries.
HE also pointed out that despite the significant challenges arising from the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus which has disrupted supply chains and normal business operations around the world, the year 2020 has seen major achievements for Qatar.
“Since the outbreak of Covid-19, Qatar was keen on maintaining its trading relations with friendly countries and strengthening international cooperation frameworks to ensure the continuity of trade as the engine for economic recovery,” he added.
Praising the state’s swift response in implementing containment measures, he assured that these steps helped limit the economic and social impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, adding that the allocation of a QR75 billion package provided considerable support for the national economy and helped the private sector overcome the negative impacts of the crisis.
Al Kuwari invited participants of the conference to establish businesses and partnerships in Qatar and benefit from the durability of Qatari economy and incentives offered for foreign investors, affirming that there is a plenty of opportunities in Qatar thanks to its highly developed infrastructure, incentives of free zones and legislation and laws that protect investments.
Investors will have the opportunity to finance develop and operate projects in many sectors including food security sports, tourism, health, education, and logistics, he said.
President of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) Rifat Hisarciklioglu inaugurated the conference which also included a speech by HE Ruhsar PEKCAN, Turkish Minister of Trade.
During the conference, representatives and presidents of unions and chambers of commerce and industry in the Asian Cooperation Dialogue Member Countries delivered presentations on the economic state of play and investment incentives offered by each country to attract investments.
In addition, a presentation delivered by Ahmet İhsan ERDEM, Vice President, Investment Office, Republic of Turkey, on business opportunities of Turkey.
